ThinkAid Foundation has donated sanitary pads and COVID-PPEs(nose masks) to the students and the people of Nkyemkyemaamu in the Berekum West District of Bono region.
ThinkAid seeks to provide support to less privileged and vulnerable groups in society, particularly children and persons living with disability in our communities .
The founder / CEO of the organisation, Henry Kofi Adane (Borga 1), a native of Berekum, who lives in London , could not join the ceremony in person but monitored it live on GhanaNewsPlus Facebook page, stated “Together, we can impact lives !”.
The Public Relations officer for ThinkAid Foundation , Rita Sekyere, who spoke during the ceremony entreated the learners and the residents who took delivery of the nose masks to wear them appropriately to curb the spread of the COVID-19 in the area.
“As part of our mission to support the less privileged in the rural communities in terms of health, education, etc., we found it prudent to supply these nose masks. We believe when worn appropriately, will reduce the risk of spread both in the community and in the school” she posited.
She further advised the young girls in the community to stay hygienic through their menstrual cycle and abstain from premature sexual activities.
“Menstrual hygiene is key to good reproductive health, therefore, I entreat you to use the sanitary pads for the period. I also call on parents and guardians to take keen interest to educate their wards on menstrual issues. Moreover, the future is bright for you the young girls in school. I, therefore, entreat you to abstain from premature sex to abstain from teenage pregnancy and other deadly sexual transmitted diseases” Madam Rita admonished.
Speaking to the media at a ceremony, headteacher for Nkyenkyemamu D/A Basic School Mr Stephen Yeboah, noted the condition of the structure of the school makes teaching and learning very difficult during bad weather conditions such as rain and scotching sun. According him,
“There was a rainstorm that ripped off part of our roof and has not been repaired. At times, we need to do multi-grade teaching when it is either raining or strong sun. I, therefore, call on government and other benevolent people to come to our aid” Mr Yeboah pleaded.
The educationist again complained that lack of computers hinders the teaching and learning of computing (ICT) in the school. With this, he also called for help by emphasising that “Artificial intelligence is the order of the day, hence if there are no computers in the school, it affects learners and makes the work of the teachers cumbersome”.
In total, the organisation donated 200 sanitary pads and 500 reusable nose masks to the community. ThinkAid foundation officers present during the donation were Mr. Frank Amponsah (Financial Officer) and Nana Yaa Yeboah (welfare officer) and Samuel Nsowaa (Head of IT).
